  • Respect of Officials / Referees / MYC Staff / Coaches
  • Appreciation of coaches, players and spectators
  • Value teamwork; praise effort over outcome
  • Encourage good sportsmanship which builds character
  • Promote healthy, fun and fair competition

Guidelines for Behavior

To our PLAYERS, accept and understand the responsibility of playing in Media Hoops by adhering to the principles listed below as established by the MYC Basketball Committee.

  • Live up to the universal standards of good sportsmanship.
  • Treat your opponents the way you would like to be treated.
  • Respect the integrity and judgment of the Game officials. You ‘re in the game to play, not ref!
  • Respect your coach by always being on time for practices and games.
  • In victory or defeat, make sure you shake hands with your opponent!
  • Learn the rules of the game. This will give you a better understanding and appreciation of the sport.
  • A MYC player is always a Gentleman/Lady!  A healthy attitude makes a great player.

  • Remember that you are at a contest to support your son or daughter and cheer for your team and to enjoy the skill and competition; not to intimidate or ridicule the other team and its fans.
  • Remember that MYC games are supposed to be a learning experience for our children and that mistakes are sometimes made.
  • Praise our children, please refrain from taunting or any negative comments that could lead to hurt feelings.
  • Learn the rules of the game so that you may understand and appreciate why certain situations take place or a call is made.
  • Respect the integrity and judgment of game officials, even if you disagree with their judgment, it will give a positive impression of you and our program and most importantly our children.
  • Show respect for opposing players, coaches and spectators. Treat them as you would treat a welcomed guest in your own home.
  • Recognize and show appreciation for an outstanding play by either team.
  • Be a positive role model through your own actions and by censuring those around you whose behavior is unbecoming.

Violators of MYC guidelines will be asked to leave the premises and may face further legal/organizational penalties in the form of disqualifications, suspensions, and bans.
