Winter Basketball League

Basketball Winter League 2019-2020


Winter League Basketball Registration is Now Open!

Teams will have one practice session and one game per week.

Note: Some divisions may fill before the registration deadline.  Once a division is full, we recommend placing your child on the wait list.

Registration Deadline: October 31st (see note above)

Registration Fee: $125 per player
3 players in the same household - $40 discount ($335 total fee)
4 players in the same household - $50 discount ($450 total fee)
5 players in the same household - $60 discount ($565 total fee)


Winter League is a Recreational League for Girls 1st-10th Grades & Boys 1st through 11th (no HS varsity players permitted).  All players who register are placed on a team.  Evaluations will take place in November and teams will start practices and games in late Nov - early Dec (varies by age group).  Games continue until mid-February, followed by play-offs which end in late February.  Teams will have one practice session and one game per week.

All players in grades 3rd and up must attend one scheduled evaluation to be placed on a team.
Teams will have one scheduled practice session per week.  All teams will play a minimum of 10 games.  There are playoffs for all divisions.

3rd & 4th Grade – Tue. Nov. 12th from 6:15 - 8:00pm

5th & 6th Grade – Mon. Nov. 11th from 6:15 - 8:00pm

7th – 10th Grade – Thu. Nov. 14th from 6:15 - 8:00pm

Make-up for 5th-6th Grade Girls -- Wed. Nov. 20th from 6:15-7:15pm
Make-up for 7th-10th Grade Girls  – Thu. Nov. 21st from 6:15 – 7:30pm

AFTER EVALUATIONS
Following the final evaluation session for each division, coaches will hold a draft. After the draft, each player will receive an email with their team assignment and practice schedule.  Game schedules will be announced as they are released online.

We are always in need of volunteer coaches.  Please indicate your ability to volunteer when you complete the registration process for your child. PLEASE NOTE:  These schedules are the anticipated schedules however, they should be considered TENTATIVE based upon enrollment numbers for each league. Teams will have one practice session and one game per week.

1st-2nd Grade Girls  - Games Saturday Afternoons / Practices Wed or Thurs evenings  

3rd-4th Grade Girls - Games Saturday Afternoons / Practices Mon through Thur evenings

TOURNAMENT TEAMS - separate registration required.
Players who participate in Winter League are eligible to tryout for MYC's Tournament Teams.  Tryouts are Dec 7th & 14th.  The teams will play in 3 tournaments in mid-Feb to late March. Players must register for tournament team tryouts in order to express their interest in participating on a tournament team. For more information, please see the Tournament Team program page.

Robotics Program

About MYC's Robotics Program
The FIRST Lego Program is the travel team of the mind. While participating in the FLL, kids will discover the fun of science and technology by working together in teams to investigate existing real world problems that surround the themed challenge. Participant’s research and offer solutions by designing, building, and programming autonomous robots using Lego Models. Team members have the opportunity to take field trips and speak with industry scientists, subject matter specialists, CEOs and doctorates to investigate how the world around us works, and they will compete locally against other teams.

Junior First Lego League Ages 5-9yo (JrFLL)
6 members per team, at least one Mentor - $90

First Lego League ages 9 – 13yo (FLL)
8 members per team, at least two Mentors - $125

First Tech Challenge 14 – 18yo (FTC)
10+ members per team, at least one Mentor - $160

2019 SEASON TEAMS & MEETING DAYS - Starting Monday, Sept 9, 2019

*Note: Our Monday JrFLL and Friday FLL teams are in need of lead mentor /asst mentor volunteers. Please contact Dan Rockwell [email protected] for questions.  Lead mentors will receive support but will be in charge of coordinating their team.  No experience is necessary!

FLL Team 2 (Hasson/Doyle) - TEAM IS FULL - will meet Tuesdays 6-8pm

FLL Team 3 - (Garwood) -- TEAM IS FULL - will meet Fridays 6-8pm

FTC (Rockwell)
- will meet Sundays 1-4pm


Teams will start meeting the week of September 9th and will meet through December or their last scheduled competition (older teams usually continue in to Jan/Feb).  Each team meets for one session per week for approximately 2 hours.  Teams may schedule additional time to prep for competitions.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU REGISTER -- IMPORTANT REGISTRATION NOTICE:  Registration is open to the public; however, participants of MYC's robotics programs from the prior season are given priority in placement on teams.  Remaining, open spots are filled on a first-come, first-serve registration basis.  We do have a wait list activated.  You should choose the wait list if given the option in order to maintain your spot "in line" for registration.
NEW PARTICIPANTS -- prior to the start of the season you will receive a confirmation email to let you know if we can add you to the team of your choice.  If the team you choose at registration is full with returning members, we will offer you to be transferred to a different team, if space is available.

Who:
Girls & Boys in 1st through 8th Grade

What: Fall Clinic Series for Basketball - 7 sessions in September & October. 
Age / Skill -specific instruction for skills, including drills, and a progression to scrimmage play.

When: 7-week clinic series starting September 8th through October 21st.


Girls & Boys 1st - 3rd Grades - Sundays 5:00-6:15pm (9/8 to 10/20)

Girls 4th-8th Grades - Sundays 6:15-7:30pm (9/8 to 10/20)

Boys 4th & 5th Grades - Mondays 6:00-7:15pm (9/9 to 10/21)

Boys 6th-8th Grades - Mondays 7:15-8:30pm (9/9 to 10/21)


Where:  All sessions take place at the Media Youth Center, 1 Youth Way, Media

Cost: $85.  Payment must be complete no later than Sep 3.

Registration Note- each session has a maximum number of participants.  Registration will close when the maximum number is reached and a wait list will form.

What to Wear / Bring:  Players should wear sneakers, shorts and a t-shirt.  Optional - water bottle.
