The Robotics Clubs consists of a Junior FIRST LEGO League Teams for ages 7-9 and a FIRST LEGO League Team for ages 10-14. The coed teams meet once a week for two hours from September to March and also attend several field trips throughout the season. Club sizes are mandated by FIRST LEGO League, Inc. (10 per FLL and 6 per Jr.FLL) to ensure full participation of each youngster. The MYC currently has two FLL teams and 3 Junior FLL teams.
Youth participating in the Robotics Clubs discover the fun of science and technology, hands-on problem solving and real world application of science and math concepts. Each year the FIRST LEGO Organization presents a challenge for participants to research and offer solutions by designing, building and programming autonomous robots using Lego Models and making poster boards of their project too. These projects must negotiate a course and compete against other local and regional FLL teams.
The goals of the Robotics Clubs are to encourage team work, creative yet analytical thinking and fostering of respect for fellow teammates and competitors.
