myFuture
  myFuture is an after school program, delivered at the Media Youth Center, focused on serving potential leaders in Middle School in the Rose Tree Media School District. Students are defined as “potential leaders” if their family has limited income, they come from a single-parent family, their primary caregiver is a non-biological parent, there is a history of substance abuse or serious mental illness in the family, or the student is struggling academically. Students will be identified as “potential leaders” by the school district. The main goal of this program is to help young people to develop socially (health, safety, and well-being) and academically through homework help, group projects and physical recreational activities.

Goals
By the end of the program, the youth will have:
  • Strengthened their character, confidence, and competence;
  • Served their community;
  • Strengthened their studying, decision making, organizing, and planning skills;
  • Learned life skills;
  • Strengthened their respect for formal and informal education;
  • Learned about their bodies and how to keep them safe and healthy.
Also, the youth will be able to:
  • Set and achieve life/educational goals;
  • Be assertive;
  • Communicate better with peers, parents and other adults;
  • Be better leaders and followers;
  • Express themselves more effectively.
